Lecture Title: MIR Collective Architects

Description: As we face critical challenges of climate change, racial injustice, and health crisis, architects must find ways to design equity into our systems, spaces, materials, and engagement prac-tices at multiple scales. Jeana Ripple will present the work of Mir Collective Architects ranging from living medium art galleries to community kitchens and her research into ma-terial inequity across American cities.

Bio: Jeana Ripple is an architect, founding principal of MIR Collective, Associate Dean of Strategic Initiatives and Associate Professor at the University of Virginia. Her forthcoming book with UT Austin Press, “The Type V City: Codifying American Urban Material Inequity” focuses on the failure of architects and cities to address the social dimensions of material risk in the built environment. The work of MIR Collective is recognized by awards from the American Institute of Architects, the SEED Network, and Bloomberg Philanthropies. Ripple is a founding editor of TAD, Journal of Technology | Architecture + Design. Her research and teaching draws upon significant experience in architectural practice and her background in computer science engineering.
