Lecture Description
Moving between a few industries with notorious environmental and energetic impacts, namely, Entertainment, Product design and Architecture, Xavi presents recent works that point to the techniques these industries can learn from one another while also highlighting the role that image and aesthetics have in the circular economy.
About Xavi Laida Aguirre
Xavi Laida Aguirre [SHAH-bee] is the Founder/Director of the architectural design practice stock-a-studio and an Assistant Professor of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. With equal interests in the entertainment and the utilitarian realms, they create digital/physical cultural productions, develop material techniques and assemble architectures that consider our relationship to circular resources, aesthetics and supply systems. They were one of the 2022 Architecture League Prize winners and are a current Mellon fellow at the Canadian Centre for Architecture for the group project ‘The digital Now: Architecture and intersectionality’. Recent commissions include: a sonic hub at Dartmouth College in collaboration with T+E+A+M architects, an opera set for MOCA Geffen, an interior fit out for Superblue Miami, a solar performance kit for Design Core Detroit, a cultural space for Berlin art week and a temporary architecture at Berghain Club.
