In this interactive workshop, participants will learn tips and best practices for an LGBTQ-inclusive classroom. Centering student success and retention, faculty will gain basic knowledge about LGBTQ identities and competency in using LGBTQ-specific terminology. We will also examine inclusive practices regarding classroom norms and syllabus composition regardless of specialty. Finally, we will learn how to add preferred names and pronouns in various CU Denver information systems (e.g., Canvas and Zoom) and how to handle mistakes. After completing this workshop, attendees will have developed a toolkit that allows them to recognize potential barriers LGBTQ students face in their studies and ways to mitigate these barriers through inclusive pedagogy.
