Seminar – Teo Paoletti’s “Supporting students meanings for graphs as representing two changing quantities”

Apr. 15 @ 12:30 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.

Free

Join us for Teo Paoletti’s “Supporting students meanings for graphs as representing two changing quantities” on Monday, April 15th from 12:30 pm – 1:45 pm in Student Commons 4125 or on Zoom (email mathstats-staff@ucdenver.edu for link).

Although students from middle school through calculus are expected to think about and graphically represent changing quantities, research shows engaging in such activities is non-trivial for students. In this presentation, I detail ways of thinking about graphs as representing two changing quantities. I identify important components in students reasoning about situations and graphs that are necessary to support such reasoning. I discuss implications for such reasoning in undergraduate mathematics, ranging from developmental math through calculus and beyond.”
