Flyer for presentation with image displaying Spectral compression through randomized preconditioning. This animation, constructed using the Abalone dataset from the UCI Machine Learning Repository, illustrates how increasing the approximation rank progressively clusters the eigenvalues of the coefficient matrix in a preconditioned linear system near one. Such clustering reduces the system’s condition number, leading to faster and more stable convergence when solving large-scale kernel ridge regression problems via the conjugate gradient method.
